So I signed up for a half-marathon run this weekend. What on earth was I thinking? I ran this same half-marathon when I was 50 and it wasn't fun then! I've considered bailing but when I went to pick up my bib, I was given number 5, which is my lucky number....so I guess I have to run right? Exactly what kind of luck I'll have, I do not know! What is luck anyway? Is it chance, good fortune, attitude, or hard work? Do you make it yourself or does it just happen? People say "good luck" all the time. Some people have all the luck and some seem to have none. There's the "luck of the draw", "luck of the Irish", and "luck be a lady" I looked up the "luck of the Irish" and the origin of this is phrase goes back to the Old Country. Apparently, the Irish have been considered to be an unlucky race so this phase has been misused.....it implies good luck when it isn't. But I thought if you caught a leprechaun, that would bring you good luck...you know....catch one and your find a pot of gold - hmmm. I think the thing about luck is that you probably don't know if it's good or bad until you get some perspective on it.
So how will luck intervene for me tomorrow or will it? Wikipedia defines luck as: an event which occurs beyond one's control, without regard to one's will, intention or desired result. Well I do know this.....I will have PLENTY of time to ponder this while other runners are flying by me! I guess I will just have to to lucky enough just to finish! Wish me luck!!!!
